    Gratitude

    Gratidue

My sister and I have never been really close, not like many other sibling relationships. She was the older bossy sister, I was the younger annoying brother.

We fought a lot as kids, then grew apart as young adults. Our elderly mother remains our common bond that brings us together on a semi‐regular basis.

So when I was talking to Mom on the phone the other night, she was holding back her tears explaining how appreciative she is for all the things my sister does for her.

This is true. She does all of the caring for my Mom. They live in the same town, I live in another country. My sister is all Mom has when she needs more than a voice.

So in the spirit of thanksgiving, I was inspired to send my sister this message.

"FYI ‐ I spoke to Mom the other night and she was holding back her tears talking about how much she appreciates your help, especially as she is getting older and less mobile, no car etc. Not sure if she has ever said it directly to you, but she certainly appreciates it. Thanks Sis."

I was wanting to show my gratitude to my sister, and to let her know how grateful Mom was for all she has done for her.

My desire was to give my sister a boost, to make her feel special and to put a smile on her face. Even if it was just for a small moment.

The amazing thing I noticed. After I hit the send button, the boost, the special feeling, the smile on the face...was mine.

    My realization at that moment...

That showing gratitude can be infinitely more rewarding than receiving it.

    Legacy

    Have You Considered
    Leaving A Legacy?

Have you considered leaving a Legacy to your lodge, St. John's Lodge No 2? If you have, please make sure that St. John's Lodge No 2 is included in your Wills and Trusts so that your legacy can continue to help promote Freemasonry in the State of Delaware long after you have left your brethren behind. Freemasonry in Delaware has just celebrated its 200th anniversary. With your help, maybe it can celebrate its 300th one day.

At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

    ‐ Albert Schweitzer

Masonry was not made to divide men, but to unite them, leaving each man free to think his own thoughts and fashion his own system of ultimate truth. All its emphasis rest upon two extremely simple and profound principles, love of God and Love of Man. ‐ Joseph Fort Newton
